street lounge
The “Traveling Street Lounge” was part of Framework’s Third Avenue 10% University to Stewart Street Project. The idea of creating street lounges for pedestrian use was one of the “kit of parts” items intended to activate and organize the streetscape. By conducting the traveling street lounge pilot project and evaluation research, our team was able to gain valuable insights into people’s use of the of the street and the use of lounge. The Traveling Street Lounge was placed in a variety of locations along the corridor and tested a number of activities.
In addition to the design team, the use of the lounge was monitored by staff from the Downtown Seattle Association and students from the University of Washington Sociology Department. The pilot project offered valuable information on location and programming for permanent future street furnishings. The Traveling Street Lounge also allowed the design team to engage people in design ideas for Third Avenue.
