Building A Cultural Focal Point for the Community

The Mercer Island Center for the Arts (MICA) will bring a new home for theater, music, dance, and the visual arts to the community of Mercer Island, WA.

Framework is Project and Architect lead for the design team of this cultural venue for Mercer Island. The program for this new 38,000 square foot building includes a 300-seat main stage theater, a black-box venue, and a multi-use recital studio.

A generous public lobby, with a reclaimed japanese-style truss overhead, opens to the grassy field of Mercerdale Park.A cafe/bar will provide a place for the community to gather and a place from which to enjoy the park. Educational spaces–for music, dance, and the visual arts– look out onto a wooded hillside. At the south edge of the community’s Town Center, MICA will bring a much needed 18-hours of activity and access to the arts.
